These are two drawings. The one on the top is an sketch I created in the beggining of the year my theme was silence. I re-created it in the image below. To enhance it I chose different types of supplies such as chalk pastel and pencil. I learned that the color added and use of different material really helped enhance the meaning behind it. Through these photos I thinks it's obvious how my skills have enhanced somewhat. These two drawings are from different times in the semester. The left (paper clip) was drawn to show realism and shanking techniques. On a 1-4 I would rate it a 1, the shading isn't very well and I didn't show much demention where needed. On the right (girl) was a choice project where I chose identity. I would rate it a 3, the rig cage on the girl I think I shaded nicely to show the indentations that were showing her bones. Her hair could have been more realistic and flowing. I think I have improved in shading and indentations but through these images not much in realism. I understand that my images are very different but both of same supplies and media. Both were looked at through research images. I saw that I took way more time on the right than I had on the left. I saw how choice projects let me put more care into them. I really enjoyed the following units; •clay •realism •choice •limitations I enjoyed these because each are very unique and al the styles can be shown differently. My favorite over all has to be choice. Choice projects allowed everyone to express themselves in what ever way possible. You could do so many things and use so many materials, it was limitless. The only thing I would take away from course would be the long videos of us watching others draw. Id much rather learn to do something by doing it over and over again. Not watching someone else do it amazingly than see my crapy work compared to theirs. Over all I really enjoyed the class and I can't wait to take Art 2 next year!

My ideas for this project came from self experience. Some of the writings in the girls hair were my own thoughts/things said to me. I really like working on harmful events and hate because I've experienced so much of it that it just is easy to express how it feels. I looked up images ( which will be at bottom) one is the girl another is hair because at first the words were going to be here face but to changed it in the end to hair. I also made a list of things that could be written in her hair/face. The inspiration for this piece was the poem on it. It shows how eating disorders aren't just not eating. Its a voice in your head that speaks and thinks for you. You cant escape and once you get corrupted and let them take over, its very hard to go back. anorexia was a choice for me because in eighth grade i fainted and got hurt from not eating, i ended up in the hospital because i fainted at school and my glasses broke and cut my face. the scar left reminds me constantly of what happened and how much it hurts to let them win. I only need 7 stitches but even 1 was too high of a cost to me. A simple voice in a girl or boys head can seem to be a friend but once your hooked its a demon pulling the strings in your life and you have to fight as hard as you can to shake it. To me this piece shows how it manipulates young girls.
I really enjoy choice pieces because to me it shows so much more expression than doing what your told. Its shows rebellion, pain, happiness, fate, fear, etc. Having so much choice allowed me to mix supplies. I used pencil, chalk pastels, markers and pens! I feel really accomplished of the pieces ive created because i think they show meaning and express a cause that needs to be heard!! For my identity project i choose body image. Mine above is a large woman who is criticized about her wait, shes told to be a barbie. Yet men's "guidelines" are more bendable. Identity is shown by the fact women are placed into body groups, they are determined by their weight which isn't fair.
During this unit i experimented with not using my hands. In one i painted with my hands and feet and dripped paint. In another (Jack painting) I painted with my elbows. One painting i used sponges and my knuckles, another i used ink blowing. I really like how all my art came out it showed me i don't need certain things to be an artist i just need to be me. My final piece was me and some of my friends put all our hands on a page after we painted them. I like it because it shows our friendship. <3
For my observation project I choose emotion. I put words on me and Morgan's face to portray emotions. Also labels that students give eachother. I went around school taking pictures of me and friends trying to show emotion relating to bullying. I chose this photo because it has a lot of expression. Bullying was my topic. I was i observing emotions and making them visible. My success' was the color mixing. Creating the flesh and skin was difficult at first but now its easy. The hard part waS MAKING THE FINGER NOTICEABLE, SO IT LOOKS BAD.
My drawing skills have increased a bit since the class started, I am better and shading and showing realism. The shading techniques showed to us during class helped a lot. I really like the shade crossing for the sphere. I feel better about using other drawings as references now thanks to the quote " Good artist create, Great artists Steal!". Its made me feel better by letting me know when I use other drawings as an outline or theme that I'm not being mean or stealing credit. A lot of the drawings i made before this call were solely based on other art pieces. I would see my character remix project as a big success in my eyes, I really like the punk look. Also the fact that i kept the original body position. A challenge to me is creating a sense of realism, i found really difficult with my Two in one drawing. Also in my paper clip drawing, its not just the shading that gets me its the perfect lines or exact curves and shape that throw me off. As the class progress' I assume it shall be easier to do though.
